We had a great Christmas! It was so much fun to experience everything through Russell's eyes. Remarkably, he has not touched our tree the whole time we've had it up, which is what I was most worried about. He loves when we turn on the lights though and starts shouting "tree! tree!". I think he'll be sad when we take it down soon. He also loves seeing the Christmas lights outside and always says "Wow wow wow" whenever he sees lights on someone's house. We were excited to put up a few lights outside for the first time ever. We felt very festive this year.
Ricardo finished school on Dec 23 and it was so nice to have him home and free from studying! We were kind of glad we didn't travel anywhere and got a chance to just relax and regroup for the new year. Russell is loving having Mom and Dad's attention too. On Christmas Eve we had a brunch with some friends from church, which was fun and delicious. We made cinnamon rolls and saved some extra ones for our Christmas Day breakfast too. I had to work on Christmas Eve night (I was off for Thanksgiving, so it's a trade-off), and Ricardo and Russell went to a Brazilian Christmas party and had a great time without me. :) Luckily they brought home tons of great desserts. When I got home Christmas morning we had breakfast and opened gifts! Russell was definitely spoiled by us and his grandparents and he was in seventh heaven. He wasn't into unwrapping gifts for his birthday so it was fun to see him get the hang of it on Christmas.
We got him this little table and chairs and he loves it. I'd been wanting to get him this for awhile and then finally decided to just give it to him for Christmas.
Lawn mower from Grandma. He would have been entertained with this for hours if we didn't make him open his other gifts.
We also got to skype with my sister who's serving an LDS mission on Christmas morning and it was fun to see her! Can't believe she's been in Germany for a year already! The rest of the day was spent napping and playing with Russell's new toys and then we had dinner with the LDS missionaries serving in our area. It was a great day.
We took Russell to the mall before Christmas and thought about visiting Santa, but after seeing how he reacted to Frosty the Snowman we decided against waiting in the hour-long line. Maybe next year!
My parents got us season passes to the Please Touch Museum (children's museum here in Philly), so we took Russell there the day after Christmas. He had a great time and it was fun to go there with Ricardo. I'm sure Russell and I will be going a lot in the coming months while it's still cold. Christmas Day was 60 degrees though-most people here were disappointed but the warm weather was one of my favorite parts about Christmas.
Russell's other favorite gift was this little car. Maybe it was dumb for us to give this to him in the winter though, because it has since gotten colder but all he wants to do is go outside and sit in the car!
For New Year's Eve we continued our tradition of frying a ton of food (french fries, cheese sticks, jalapenos, and we added steak this year) with some friends. It's a great way to start the New Year eating healthy since we always feel like eating salad after eating all that food. 2014 has been a great year and we're looking forward to a lot of exciting things in 2015! Happy New Year!
