Ricardo has been doing a lot of traveling throughout dental school due to his involvement with ASDA (American Student Dental Association). Most of his trips have been to Chicago because the headquarters is there and he has become obsessed with this city. We decided we should probably cash in some of my southwest points and take advantage of a cheap Chicago trip while we have the chance. My mom was visiting the northeast for a few weeks in January and that happened to coincide with one of his trips, so we left Russell with Grandma and his cousins in DC for the weekend and flew to Chicago! The association always puts up the students in a hotel just off Michigan Avenue and it was so fun to stay there. We walked basically everywhere we went and the weather was even in the 40s-amazing for Chicago in January! We came early on Friday to do some sightseeing together before Ricardo's friends came in town. We visited the famous Bean sculpture at Millennium Park and enjoyed watching some talented ice skaters there too. We did some shopping, ate some delicious food, and met up with his friends once they arrived later.
Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza-SO delicious and so filling. After eating a salad first I couldn't even finish one slice! Really.
The next day Ricardo had meetings so I spent the day with his good friend's girlfriend, who also came for the weekend. The day consisted of more delicious food, more shopping, and a walk to the Navy Pier, which was actually beautiful in the winter (and not quite as cold as it looks in the photos).
On Sunday he had more meetings and so I went to church while he was busy and then we left for the airport in the evening. It was a long travel day because we had to fly into DC, drive to my sister's house to get Russell and then drive home that night, but it was definitely worth the trip! We had a great time. Thank you to my Mom and sister for taking care of this little boy for us-we were so excited to see him!
