Fall Fun

We have had a great fall so far! If you can really call it "fall" in Miami. It's definitely still a lot colder inside than it is outside-people are so overzealous with the AC down here! School is keeping us busy for sure. I just finished my Internal Medicine rotation and am about to start pediatrics! Rotations have been really fun so far. If only I were getting paid for all of my hard work :). Ricardo has been busy studying night and day for his Master's program and flying around the country for dental school interviews. Fingers crossed for Dec. 1st! Despite the fact that the majority of the time we spend together is at the library, we have been able to squeeze some other things in too! In September we got to head up to Orlando and hang out with our good friends Ashley and Lane and Ashley's parents who I love while they were in town on vacation. We spent the day at Cocoa Beach (no pictures , alas) and had a great time boogieboarding and catching up on life! In Oct...

Last Days of Summer

Can you believe it has been two years since we got married?? To celebrate our anniversary this year we went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, courtesy of a gift card we received for babysitting the most well-behaved children ever. We enjoyed the red velvet cheesecake, which is officially my new favorite. I will babysit anytime! :) Last weekend we had some visitors! Since there is a new baby on Ricardo's side, all of the family came down here for the baby blessing last Sunday. Ricardo's sister and her husband and their four kids AND his parents all spent the weekend in our teeny tiny one bedroom apartment. We had a blast! I wish I took more pictures, but halfway through the beach the battery in my camera died and I couldn't find the charger. :( Here are the few that I took for your viewing pleasure: Michelle and baby Eliza at the beach! Parley and Joseph getting even more tan than they already were: Lucy soak...

Done!

Wow, I have been a lazy blogger all summer. The truth is, both Ricardo and I are awful at taking pictures and I feel silly posting on here without pictures to back up my words. Excuses, excuses... Lots of news! I like making lists... 1. I am DONE with school! Kind of...I start my rotations in 2 weeks. No more sitting in a classroom every day from 8-5! I am excited/nervous to start practicing in the real world. Still have a lot to learn! My first three rotations are OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. Those will keep me busy til Christmas. 2. We moved! Not too far away, just half an hour south to north Miami. We absolutely love our new place, it's our favorite one thus far (and there have actually been quite a few in the last 2 years), but we were sad to leave Ft. Lauderdale. Luckily some of our friends are willing to make the commute to hang out with us. :) 3. Ricardo starts his master's program at the end of the month. He is looking forward to being back in school and ...

BOSTON!!

I figure this is important enough to merit its own post. My dad recently qualified for the Boston Marathon!! He has been working towards this goal ever since he got addicted to running marathons two years ago. He will be running the race in April 2012. In the meantime, he'll be running two other marathons. He is nuts. :) We are so proud of him and excited that he has achieved his goal! Look out, Boston!

Ft. Lauderdale Winter

I feel like a broken record, but..I know it's been awhile since I've posted! Life has just been too good to find the time to write about it! Good excuse, huh? Considering the fact that tomorrow is the last day of February (and my half birthday, to all of you who care), I shall recap our "winter" for you. November: We had two Thanksgiving dinners, which was awesome! At Ricardo's house it was more like a Thanksgiving dessert party, but I'm always okay with that. We loved it. December: Ricardo turned 24! Like the crazy, non-sugar loving person he is, he didn't want a cake. So he blew out his candle on a baked potato. Sometimes I am concerned about him. :) Christmas was also great. We had so much fun seeing my brother and sister and her family. We actually took family pictures which turned out great! I will post those when I get copies from my parents. Her daughters are so cute, we loved hanging out with them. We also had a great time at Ricardo's house. N...

Public Service Announcement

I usually don't use my blog as a forum, mostly just a super delayed update of our lives. :) However, we have been learning OB/GYN in school recently and I've learned a lot of things that I think anyone getting ready to have a baby should know. Actually, mostly just one thing. GO SEE THE OB BEFORE YOU GET PREGNANT! The main theme for our lectures has been that there are a lot of problems that can occur in pregnancy, but tons of them are also preventable. However, it gets tricky to fix these problems after you're pregnant. For example, let's imagine you find out after you're pregnant that you're actually not immune to Rubella, despite having the vaccine as a kid (it can happen). So you need the vaccine... EXCEPT you can't get it after you're pregnant. So now your baby has a 1/4 chance of really serious birth defects if you were to catch rubella. The same goes for a bunch of other diseases that cause congenital defects. There's a blood panel that your d...
