Summer + Caroline

We have definitely had a lazy summer after our busy move across the country. We like our new town so far but definitely have missed the beach on these hot summer days. It's been 100 degrees most of the summer!

Our area is known for its produce so we have done a lot of fruit picking. The kids enjoy doing it and we all enjoy eating it!

Ricardo's fellow residents both have kids so we have enjoyed spending time with them this summer. The kids are all good friends now.

These two have bonded a lot the last few months. Thomas is getting old enough to play pretend with Russell and they get along pretty well most of the time. This picture is blurry but I thought it was cute they were cuddling while watching TV one afternoon.

We went camping one weekend and then spent the day on a mountain lake about an hour from our house. The water was freezing but the kids were willing to float out on their floats and Ricardo dove in once just to say he did it.

We are always making costumes around here...

They pulled out their winter hats...who knows why?

There was a local celebration for the police department so we went and got hot dogs and snow cones and Russell got to go in a fire truck, climb on an army tank and sit inside a police car. Thomas was asleep, but Russell loved it.

My mom came a week before my due date and we had fun showing her around town. Russell has been waiting all summer for raspberries to come in season so he was so excited to finally go pick some! They ate several pounds of raspberries in just a few days.

Drive in movie night at the library. They got to make a car out of a box and then watch a movie. The box cars have been a good source of entertainment afterwards too!

We went to an old fashioned car show last weekend and the boys had a blast seeing all of the old cars. One nice man let them sit in his purple car for a photo op.

Last Sunday I started having contractions so Ricardo and I headed to the hospital after church to have a baby. I figured it would be pretty smooth sailing the third time around. Unfortunately they quickly found she was in bit of distress during my contractions so after a busy 45 min of trying some less invasive interventions, they ultimately decided I needed to have a c-section. By this time it was considered an emergency so I was put to sleep for the procedure. Usually no one else is allowed in for emergency cases, but they let Ricardo come in because he happened to be on his anesthesia rotation at the hospital at the time and knew the anesthesia staff. Luckily she and I were both healthy after the ordeal and I woke up to a new baby. Her name is Caroline Jo and she is our most petite child at 6 lb 1 oz and 19 inches. We are grateful everything turned out ok and we had an uneventful hospital stay and came home 2 days later. My mom has been a huge help with cooking, taking care of the boys and we are so grateful she's here. Thomas and Russell have been doting big brothers and have made the transition to 3 kids easy so far.
