Grandma came to visit...and other fun summer things

A few weeks ago my mom came to visit for about 10 days. It was a lot of fun to have her here! We were very spoiled by having a live-in babysitter when I went to work and Russell had lots of fun reading books and going for walks with grandma. He wasn't that thrilled about books before she came but now he is obsessed. He could be happy flipping through his books all day long. I've been taking him to the library about once a week and he has a blast.

On my days off we took my mom for a little sightseeing. We did the tour of independence hall, went to the portrait museum, and also went to check up on the construction of the Philadelphia LDS temple, which is always exciting. Russell did great, as always, on our outings. Though he was very chatty during the tour of independence hall which did not thrill our tour guide. Oh well.

My sister and her family came down for a few days from DC during my mom's time at our house. We went to Franklin Square and Smith playground with all the kids and they had a blast. Here's Russell waiting with his cousins for the carousel. He hated riding on it. Maybe next time.

Look who is finally liking the swing though. I'm glad he's grown into it.

I got this smile while he was playing around on the mini golf course.

We also did another birthday cake for Russell while they were here. He still did not eat the cake but he sure did make a mess.

They also went to Longwood Gardens without me while I had to work and then my mom went back home with my sister to Maryland. For a few days after she left Russell would go into her room looking for her. It was so cute.

                                           Let me out!!

New and cute things Russell is doing lately. He nods his head all the time, says "yeah" whenever you ask him a question, points at pictures in his books. He loves going outside so if you tell him we are going outside he will go get his shoes. Sometimes he will just go get his shoes and sit by the front door to let you know he wants to go outside. Like so:

He will also go to the fridge when he is hungry or if you tell him he can have some specific food, he will go wait by the fridge. If he's really happy he has this super cheesy smile he will do where he throws his head back and closes his eyes. I need to catch that on camera.

He is trying to run everywhere

Loves "driving" the car. We were outside one day when Ricardo came home from school and when Ricardo picked him up and put him in the car he first had one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick shift and he did that for awhile. By the time I went to get my phone to take a picture he had moved, but it was funny that he was driving stick.

Ricardo took his dental boards this week, so we're happy to have that over with! He has finals next week and then has a pretty low-key summer after that. We just booked flights to Florida in August for vacation/anniversary trip so we are very excited! We love summer.
